My Review
I'm already going to apologize already, because I know that some people are already mad by the rating I gave this one. You're probably like "THREE STARS!.... Really, only three....", and yes only three. This one wasn't a bad book, by any means, but it wasn't very good either. I loved Meyer's Cinder series, and I was a little let down by this one. I was looking forward to this book all last year, and it was a small let down, and didn't live up to the expectations I had for it. Heartless may have been over-hyped, and I think it was, because if it wasn't, I might not have had such high expectations for it. So, like I said there were both good and bad things, but all in all Heartless was an okay book, not my favorite but alright.
Some of the problems I've had with this one was mostly the plot line. So, I was about one-hundred pages in, and I already saw what was going to happen with three-hundred pages left in the book! I hate when I can already see were a whole book is going to go, because I lose complete interest in finishing it, and I also feel like reading the book is a huge waste of time. I have a lot of other ones I could be reading. But, that is kind of what happened with this one. And also, I felt like I was waiting for this BIG THING to happen all throughout the book. Now there were some shocking realizations as to what was happening, but I felt like this book was just a huge lead up to nothing. At the end of the book I was like, "This is it... this is the end of the story... really...." I was expecting so much more.

Some good things about this book was the writing style, word choice, and character adaptations. I mean, come on. How could the writing style not be on point? It's Marissa Meyer. She always has a beautiful way with words and imagery. It was amazing in Cinder and it is the same case with this one. Meyer's word choice made it really easy for me to visualize what was going on, as well as the different settings throughout the book. I loved her character adaptations in this one too. I liked how she stuck with original characters from Alice and Wonderland, and I also really like how you could see her own twists on each of them. It was very exciting to see her create almost whole new characters from some of my favorite classic ones.
Again, I'm sorry. I could only give this book three stars. Don't get me wrong, there were both good and bad things about this one. I just couldn't get past the plot line. I liked Meyer's writing style, word choice, and character adaptations. But her plot work could use some work. I still love Meyer as an author, heck she ever wrote one of my favorite sci-fi series that I'm going to be reading for years to come. And she doesn't lose any credibility, she's still an amazing author. And hopefully in the future I will be reading another favorite from her soon.
