milk and honey by rupi kaur

milk and honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. It is about the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose, deals with a different pain, heals a different heartache. milk and honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

this is the journey of
surviving through poetry
this is the blood sweat tears
of twenty-one years
this is my heart
in your hands
this is
the hurting
the loving
the breaking
the healing

my review

i loved this book, not just because it gave me a reason to not use the shift key this whole post, but because this book was so beautiful. i haven't read poetry in a very long time, but i think that kaur has to be one of my favorites now. i loved how she hit on though topics of love, hurt, breaking, and healing that she has experienced. love is a complicated thing, and by reading this book i don't feel alone anymore. i thought that it was only me who had these experiences in the dating and relationship department, but i guess not. kaur shared so many things that i wish people would have told me sooner. i thought it was just because of how different i was the reason things would go wrong in my relationships, but that's just not the case. now i see that probably more people go through these things too, and i also see why no one really talks about them, it's uncomfortable and sensitive. but still, i wish someone would have shared these things with me in person. it is bittersweet that i had to relate to them while reading milk and honey. but none the less, i'm glad i pick this one up. every girl should read this book, and if guys are smart, they should too. it really opened my eyes to how real relationships; both good and bad ones, look. as well as, how one can fall in and out of love, and the mindset people can go through. i will defiantly be taking the things i've learned and apply them to how i handle my break-ups, or make-ups.
