When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the
woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a
treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers
that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal
faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin
transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie
and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae.
But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find
a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.
My Review
This book is what every fantasy lover has ever wanted! Now, I know that I should have read this one much-much-much sooner than now, heck it came out two years ago, and don't worry I'm banging my head against a wall because of it. This one was so epic! If I had to say, it's Harry Potter meets Lord of The Rings. Full of magic and discovery, and with amazing fate and romance themes, A Court of Thorns and Roses is a story readers won't be forgetting any time soon. I loved Maas's creative characters, plot, and writing style. She truly has a way with story writing that takes my breath away. She has easily become one of my favorite authors, and I know I'm not the only one. This new series is so different from her Throne of Glass series; it puts a new twist on her classic fantasy writings. It's quite refreshing to see how different this one is, as much so that I can't wait to see where she is going to take this plot line in the next installment!
She gave readers a whole new character line up, with a few twists and quirks to each of them. If I had to choose a favorite it would have to be a three-way tie between Feyre, Lucien, Tamlin, and Rhysand. Feyre is just such a bad-ass and such a reliable main character, you can't help but love her. Lucien is such a smart-ass and such a humorous character; you can help but smile when you see his name. Tamlin is kind of a hot-head at times, but makes up for it with loyalty and bad-ass magic that you must appreciate him. And then there is Rhys, the High Lord of the Night Court, full of mystery and dark magic there is no way you can miss him anywhere. This new characters are unlike any I've seen from Maas yet, and they are what bring this action-packed story to life.
The plot was great, even though looking back at it now, it might have seemed cliche. But we all love a good love story, and the main theme in this one is no matter what battle, love will always prevail. But Maas spun this cliche theme and made it her own. She adds her own spice and flare to it, and it way amazing to see what unfolded with each page turn. Maas also did a fantastic job by keeping reader on the edge of their seats with bone-chilling plot twists. I couldn't believe what I was reading half the time. She also kept it original with thrills and mystery that will have every reader coming back for more.
Maas's writing style in this one, like it is in every novel of hers, was on point. She has such a way with words, unlike any other writer I've seen, it's like she is a word master. She sculpts and creates word form and sentence structure so well, it's almost scary. She has truly come a long way as a writer and you can see it in her fans. There are so many of us, it's no wonder that she is one of the most loved authors in the YA community.
A Court of Thorns and Roses is such an amazing book, and I highly recommend it to all my fantasy lover out there. Maas creative characters, plot, and writing style brought life to a new world and I just can't get enough of it! I can't wait to see what she has in-store for me in A Court of Mist and Fury, because no matter what, I know it's going to be good.
